Henri Felettig Burgundy, France

Domaine Henri Felettig

This Domaine began in 1965 when Henri Felettig's parents gave him 2 hectares of vines and 1 hectare of cassis (currants). In 1992 Henri and his wife Reine purchased additional vineyards bringing the total of their land to 9.72 hectares. In 1993 Henri and Reine formed a corporation (GAEC) between themselves and their two children Christine and Gilbert. In 1995 they expanded further with the addition of a Vosne-Romanee Village, a Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru, and a Gevrey-Chambertin "La Justice".

Christine and Gilbert acquired a vineyard in Nuits St. Georges in 2001 which means their vineyards now spread from Gevray-Chambertin to Vosne-Romanee, not to mention Hautes Cotes des Nuits and Beaune; a total of 10 hectares (24.71) acres in the most prestigious appellations. Their next goal is to obtain a parcel of Grand Cru.

The Felettig's have received many awards, among them our Vosne-Romanee, in Macon, Guide Hachette and Testevinage, to name a few.

They use various methods to enhance the quality of their wines; severe pruning, leaving only 7-8 branches per vine; green harvesting, cutting the green grapes from the vines to bring fewer clusters in order to have a greater concentration of quality juice in the remaining grapes; selective hand-harvesting, followed by traditional vinification, and aging on the lees in oak barrels for a period of 12-18 months.

They use 40% new oak barrels for the Premiere Cru and 20-30% new oak for the appellation Villages.

Since 1999 they have used no filtration at all on the Premiere Crus in order to preserve the authenticity of their product.

The Wines:
2000 Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits
2000 Chambolle Musigny
2001 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru "Les Carrieres"
2001 Vosne-Romanee

Henri Felettig

Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuit
This beautiful dark ruby red wine, is made from 100% Pinot Noir, grown in a vineyard that borders the Chambolle-Musigny appellation. Aged in oak barrels, it has a beautiful aroma of red fruits, generous in the mouth, is round and velvety with soft tannins and a long finish. Great with duck, roasted meat, small game and cheeses.

Vosne Romanee
This beautiful wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir, fermented and aged in oak barrels for 15 months. It is non-filtered, has a dark ruby red color with purple-violet reflections, an aroma of vanilla roasted coffee, spice and leather; full bodied with good balance and structured with firm tannins and a long, generous finish. A wine with a great future that can be enjoyed now as well. (only 2000 bottles made).

Chambole-Musigny
Made from 100% Pinot Noir, aged in oak barrels, this beautiful dark red wine has an aroma of mature red fruits that evolves into nuances of spice & liquorice. On the palate it is full bodied, complex and elegant with well integrated tannins and a long finish. Can be kept for many years, but enjoyed now with fowl, meats, game, stews and cheeses.

Chambolle - Musigny 1er Cru-Les Carrieres
Made from 100% Pinot Noir from old vines, fermented and aged in new oak barrels for 15 months and non filtered. The result is a dark ruby red wine with a lot of finesse and concentration, an intense and complex aroma of raspberries, cherries and currants, and a taste with notes of coffee and vanilla (coming from the new oak) united with soft and round tannins, and a long flavorful finish. (only 2000 bottles made).
