Bodegas Valdepablo Calatayud, Spain

Bodegas de Valdepablo

From Roman times they have been growing grapes in this area. In fact, the famous Roman poet, Marco Marcial, who lived in this area for much of his life (41 - 103) named this area "Augusta Bilbilis" - "the little motherland". The cultivation of the vines in the Denominacion de Origen Calatayud (Denomination of Origin of Calatayud), located in the western part of the province of Zaragoza, is steeped in knowledge and tradition. The region of Calatayud, formed by an ensemble of 46 communes, occupy in excess of 7300 hectares which form the base of viniculture in this area producing rich and abundant crops. In 1980 the winemakers modernized their wineries and became more exacting in their winemaking procedures. A careful process based on the most modern technology gave expression to the excellent characteristics of the grapes and their earthly birthplace. The vineyards of (Bilbilis) Calatayud produce wines that are robust, powerful, and of a noble quality, accepted by the finest restaurants
Founded in 1928 in Calatayud (Saragossa), the company began producing and distributing table wines. The company moved to Terrer (7 Km from Calatayud) in 1986. The new winery now occupies a total surface of 25000 m2 and includes a new bottling plant, situated next to the automatic production line. The company has progressively grown since it was founded, especially in the last ten years. Ê
Jalon River, before ending at Ebro River, waters the fields in a pure and generous way. Its pure waters contain the spring thaw of the Iberic mountains streams. It was 2000 years ago that Marco Valerio Marcial, the famous Roman poet born in Calatayud, sang of the excellent qualities of these lands as the perfect soil for growing grapes, and producing the finest wines. The special climate condition, together with the quality of its water, makes possible the fame and international renown beyond the Spanish territories.
