Solves the problem of removing synthetic corks with the Cedon, Zeus and Dion Table Mount
Corkscrews.
Here's an excellent description of the problem.
"We have just made the switch to synthetic cork in our bottle. To our
surprise, we have found that the common lever action, bench mounted
cork pullers used by restaurants for opening bottles quickly cannot
remove these corks. After much examination it appears that the problem is
the thickness of the screw itself. The synthetic corks apparently are more
dense that natural corks. The screws or augers cannot penetrate the corks
all the way without breaking the glass. In most cases the screw simply
penetrates about 95% of the way and stops. It does not reach the point
where when withdrawn, it stops rotating and pulls the cork out. Instead,
the screw penetrates 95% of the way and then unscrews itself as the lever
is pulled back."
Our manufacturer's solution:
"We have developed a new worm that
has an extra turn. This extra turn has been well received by our client (a
large winery) after many experiments. We call the new worm - The
Universal Worm Kit and should solve the problem."
The Universal Kit will fit the
following table or wall mount corkscrews: Cedon, Zeus and Dion.
